I think that there are so many worries when building a site that no one will look at it, what will people think but if we put nothing out there at all then no one will see you. So putting all the worries aside, the new website has launched!
It is really hard to gauge reaction to pieces of content that now surround us in the 21st century media frenzy. Social media experts will tell you that as a business you need to blog once a week, post to facebook at least once a day and tweet 3 times a day not to mention all the other social media platforms we could be part of. I really don’t think that people realise how hard it is for us to find and post interesting content to our social media but I have found a great new app that is helping so at least we should be ‘out there’ a little more.
Friends of our recently went on holiday to an island in the Indian ocean… it had no television and no INTERNET. Most people would be shocked at this but did they miss it – no not really. But as they get back into everyday life, the television, internet and media surrounds them once more.
We’d love to know what you think of the new website and please let us know if you have any changes that you think could improve…
Last week the Sedgemoor Business Excellence Awards were held, an annual event that we have been privileged to be the photographers for over the last four years.
I am apart of the Bridgwater Town Team , another business group who help run courses and events in the Town Centre. A colleague said to us we should enter for the Independent Trader / Retailer Award so with a little effort, our application was submitted and accepted by the Judges.
I am very proud to say that we won this award. I was so shocked and was a complete surprise. Garry and I have been working really hard on the business and making many improvements over the last 2 years. The Judges commented on our applications by staying they were impressed that the business had evolved from a hobby into a successful business ( more of that in a later blog) with 3.5 employees and I have listed a couple of other milestones that have happened to make our business successful.

The general public can be skeptical about going to a photographer having heard ‘nightmare’ stories from friends and family. Well how is it possible that a whole month has passed since our last blog post…? We were going to TRY and blog on a regular basis but clearly that hasn’t quite happened…..Hmm note to self – must try harder!
Thank goodness for the spring sunshine and the promise of better weather. The daffodils are popping up and the crocuses in Kings Square look stunning. We are due to take some ‘local’ images for The Bridgwater Town Guide that will be published again in late April / early May. Why is it that you need a purpose to actually take those images rather than just do it…? Time, I guess. Anyway we look forward to sharing some cheery shots for you soon.
Fundraising is going at a pace for local families affected by the floods – We are doing our ‘bit’ from afar donating gift vouchers where we can to support these efforts….. Don’t forget that you can continue to support as you can via the Somerset Community Foundation Just Giving Page – http://www.justgiving.com/Somerset-Community-Found-Flood-Appeal
Studio wise we’ve had some funky goings-on recently …Bethan, our lovely apprentice, has had lots of creative work to do for her course and is incorporating her sister’s hairdressing skills in the studio – check out the posts on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/timelessimagesphotos All I’ll say is it’s amazing what can be done with a candle holder – Well done Sarah!
We have undertaken a few visits since our last blog, a Mark Lawrence Studio Photography course, a visit to one of our trusted suppliers and a local school as a ‘Dragon’ – no fancy dress was required – Thankfully! It’s so refreshing to get out and regroup, focus on the future and make plans. Nothing like a new season to kick start new plans – What will yours be for the coming months……….?
We thought we would keep this topical for our very first post as we live in a stunning part of the country – Somerset. The Somerset Levels has hardly been out of the news recently. We would like to share with you some of the images our Associate Photographer Peter Duce has taken recently. These show how beautiful the flooding has been but also how heart breaking for those living in and around the area.
There is not a single person in the South West who has not been affected by the Somerset Levels flooding that started before Christmas. Whether it is difficult to get to work, or just plain impossible; whether it has made visiting friends or family hard work or unfeasible; or in the worst cases if your home and property is/flooded and uninhabitable! None of us our ‘un-touched’.
MP’s are going backwards and forwards bandying their rhetoric on the subject, but unless you are living through it then it is difficult to comprehend. I’ve lived in Somerset for 30 years and never seen anything like it before. The question on most people’s lips is “could it have been avoided with dredging, proper river maintenance and additional flood defenses?”
One group who is working very hard to raise awareness on the plight of locals at this time is FLAG (Flooding on the Levels Action Group) https://www.facebook.com/groups/FLAGSomerset/?fref=ts . With more rain forecast this week and again next week, the whole region is collectively holding its breath – enough already!
If you feel that you are able to help in any way the Somerset Community Foundation have set up a fund so click here to see how you can help. They are a really lovely charity that Timeless Images has been involved with previously and offer practical help for various projects all over Somerset
